When you find yourself in need of a lawyer you probably already have so many things going through your head that the world feels like it’s crashing in on you.  The last thing you need is another worry on top of everything else that has happened. But, you do need to choose a criminal defense attorney, and that choice is a big one.

It can be overwhelming, to say the least when you are looking to hire the right attorney.  Perhaps you’ve never had to do it before? Or, maybe you are in a new city or state and don’t know anybody?  Either way, you still need to find a great attorney to help your case.

Here are some things you can do.

Research

Research, research, research.  That is the first thing you need to do when choosing a criminal defense attorney.  Any and every kind of research you can think of, do it. Ask people, read reviews, call around, whatever it takes to get the most information you can about possible attorney’s, do it.

Set Up Meetings

After you’ve done your research it’s time to set up appointments to meet with your prospective lawyers.  A good number to shoot for here is five. Between five different attorneys, you should be able to find one that suits your needs and if not you can always set up more meetings.

Pro’s and Con’s

After you’ve had your meetings it’s time to do some soul searching and figure out who is going to work for you.  Write down a list of pro’s and con’s from each attorney you met with.  After that, you should be able to make a great choice and put yourself on a path to a good outcome.

Good Luck.
